Naysayers Nation: Haters Always Hate

After being supressed by the censorship-minded TJI editorial board, the citizens of Naysayers Nation have finally been restored to the This Just In rotation.

For those of you unfamiliar with our work, we, the Naysayers Nation, are a group of contrarians bound and determined to convince you that everything you thought you knew about fantasy football is wrong.

All the other fantasy “experts” riding high on the buzz of a little known player? We’re not buying it. Your league all a-twitter with talk of “the next Walter Peyton?” Cue the manual buzzer…EHHHHHHHH.

Why do we spit in the face of conventional wisdom and fantasy football analysis? We’re just not sure. But we do have some things we’d like to naysay for the upcoming week. Here are some popular Week 8 takes that we’d like to debunk…

The Cowboys are a Mess

Okay, so Tony Romo is out this week (and maybe next). So T.O. has been kept in check and newly acquired Roy E. Williams hasn’t caught a pass yet. So their secondary is sieve-like in its ability to defend the pass (or run for that matter). We say stop your whining. They will bounce back this week against Tampa (the biggest fraud in the league, if you ask us). They have weapons, particularly Marion Barber who will respond with a much better game this week. And we know Brad Johnson was abyssmal last week, but he was just shaking off about 3 years worth of rust. Don’t give up on them just yet. You’ll see…they’ll respond in a big way this week.

Drew Brees Will Break Marino’s Record

Okay, even before last week’s stinker we knew this wasn’t happening. Despite the explosiveness, the Saints just aren’t all that good, particularly defensively. Brees is good, don’t get us wrong, but we have to bring out the naysaying stick when people talk about a record breaking year. The loss of Bush certainly hurts him. We’re going out on a limb to say that his next 7 games worth of numbers will come nowhere close to the first 7. It might be time to sell high.

Ryan Torain is the Next Big Thing

Stop us if you’ve heard this one: “You need to get the Broncos’ RB because they could turn Laura Bush into a 1,000-yard back.” A lot of people were saying that about one Selvin Young at the beginning of this year. And those that weren’t were saying it about Andre Hall. And no one was saying it about Michael Pittman, the current starter. What’s our point? There truly is no predicting the Broncos. To think that you can save your season by picking up a rookie RB that missed the first seven games is borderline ridiculous. A nice speculative add if you have the roster space, maybe, but we just can’t buy in to the hype.

So there you have it. Three popular opinions debunked. Hopefully, we’ll be back next week to undermine a few more.
